Discrete-time and Continuous-time Approaches to Dynamic Microsimulation Reconsidered
نویسنده
چکیده
In this paper the continuous-time competing-risk approach to dynamic microsimulation modelling and approaches based on a discrete-time framework are compared in a systematic way. Besides the basic modelling approaches the possibilities to extend the models to include quantitative and qualitative dependent variables, to use macroeconomic explanatory variables, and to account for dependencies between microunits are discussed. However, most attention is paid to the problems of causality, of simultaneity and of stochastic dependencies between the partial processes in multivariate models. The main conclusion is that a discrete-time framework with comparatively short time periods appears to be best suited for causal modelling in dynamic microsimulation models.

Hybrid Time Delay Petri Nets as a Mathematical Novel Tool to Model Dynamic System with Current Sample Time
The existing modeling methods using Petri Nets, have been successfully applied to model and analyze dynamic systems. However, these methods are not capable of modeling all dynamic systems such as systems with the current sample time signals, systems including various subsystems and multi-mode systems. This paper proposes Hybrid Time Delay Petri Nets (HTDPN) to solve the problem. In ...
متن کاملA novel technique for a class of singular boundary value problems
In this paper, Lagrange interpolation in Chebyshev-Gauss-Lobatto nodes is used to develop a procedure for finding discrete and continuous approximate solutions of a singular boundary value problem. At first, a continuous time optimization problem related to the original singular boundary value problem is proposed. Then, using the Chebyshev- Gauss-Lobatto nodes, we convert the continuous time op...
متن کاملDynamic Microsimulation: A Methodological Survey
This paper describes some of the issues related to constructing a dynamic microsimulation model. The paper considers the principle choices facing the model builder. These choices are whether the model should be probabilistic or incorporate behavioural response, whether model runs in discrete or continuous time, whether the model is open or closed, the extent to which static or dynamic ageing sh...
متن کاملTime-Varying Modeling of Systematic Risk: using High-Frequency Characterization of Tehran Stock Exchange
We decompose time-varying beta for stock into beta for continuous systematic risk and beta for discontinuous systematic risk. Brownian motion is assumed as nature of price movements in our modeling. Our empirical research is based on high-frequency data for stocks from Tehran Stock Exchange. Our market portfolio experiences 136 days out of 243 trading days with jumps which is a considerable rat...
متن کاملThe MicSim Package of R: An Entry-Level Toolkit for Continuous-Time Microsimulation
High entry barriers might discourage many social scientists from using existing microsimulation software. This article presents the functionality and capabilities of the free and open source R package MicSim which allows performing continuous-time microsimulation at a very fine-grained level from a low level entry point. Hence, the package might also be of interest to people who are new to R. T...
